The Sturgeon Board of Aldermen accepted the mayor's resignation Monday night, according to the city clerk.

Mayor Mike Butler submitted his letter of resignation last Wednesday. He did not provide a reason for leaving the position.

Danny Joiner, Seth Truesdell and David Day are running for an at-large seat on the Sturgeon Board of Aldermen. Voters in the city will be able to choose two of the candidates on the ballot.
