Missouri politicians express support for Israel

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri's elected officials are outspoken about the attacks in Israel Saturday. Many proclaiming support for Israeli defenses.

In a joint statement, Missouri House Speaker Dean Plocher and Senate President Caleb Rowden expressed support for Israel.

"We reiterate our unwavering support for the State of Israel and its inherent right to defend itself against acts of terrorism and aggression. The terrorists and terrorist regimes that planned and are carrying out these unprovoked and vicious acts of violence deserve swift justice at the hands of Israel and her allies, including the United States of America," the statement reads.

Missouri's junior U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt took to X to condemn the president's reaction to the attacks, sharing a thread on what he thinks the administration could've done better to prevent an attack from breaking out.

"It showed pure weakness for the Biden Administration to unfreeze $6 billion in Iranian assets, a country that is a state-sponsor of terrorism and regularly makes it known that they want to wipe Israel off the map," one post reads.

President Joe Biden made a formal statement today where he said, "Let there be no mistake: the United States stands with the State of Israel."

Gov. Mike Parson called Israel the country's closest ally when he said, "I stand with Israel. Missouri stands with Israel. The United States must stand with Israel."
