Rally held against a proposed Congressional district map
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Around 100 people gathered at the Missouri capitol building in a rally against a proposed congressional district map.
The map has already passed in the house and a senate committee but is expected to be debated in the Missouri Senate.
The Senate was scheduled to reconvene at noon but did not meet until right before 5 p.m.
Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and three Missouri senators spoke to demonstrators in support of a seven Republican and one Democrat map.
State Representative Sara Walsh said she hopes the Senate will pass the seven-one map.
"These are just people who took time off from their day jobs, Missourians who took time off to be here and to speak up loudly so that those of us here can hear their voice and I hear them loud and clear," says Missouri Rep. Sara Walsh (R-Ashland).
Currently, Congresswoman Cori Bush of St. Louis and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, of Kansas City, represent the two democratic districts.
