Missouri legislature works to finalize bills ahead of Friday deadline
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Missouri's Legislative Session ends Friday at 6 p.m, creating a deadline for bills to become laws in the state. This includes Senate Bill 262, which is set for a third reading Monday.
The Missouri transportation investment bill, or Senate Bill 262, would be the first funding increase for Missouri since the 1990's, according to the Missouri Chamber of Commerce.
The bill would increase the gas tax by 2.5 cents every year for a five-year period, to provide around $500 million in increased investments for the Missouri Department of Transportation. The chamber of commerce also said it will have a positive impact on the economy, providing thousands of jobs annually.
Last Friday, the Missouri House Rules Committee gave approval to Senate Bill 262 sending it to the floor for a final vote. The measure's third reading is expected Monday.
The Fiscal Review Committee is also meeting at 1:45 p.m Monday and will likely discuss Senate Bill 262.
