Two apply so far for Ward 2 Columbia City Council seat
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two people have applied for the soon-to-be open Ward 2 Columbia City Council seat, according to an email from City Clerk Sheela Amin.
The city announced earlier this month that it will be accepting applications for an appointment until 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13.
Ward 2 Councilwoman Andrea Waner announced her resignation earlier this month, effective Nov. 22. Waner told ABC 17 News on Oct. 2 that she is resigning because she is moving into a new home outside of Ward 2.
The two people who have applied so far are Susan Renee Carter, who is the current president of Race Matters, Friends; and Rachel Proffitt, who works at MU’s College of Health Sciences. Proffitt was also listed as the treasurer of Ward 1 Councilman Nick Knoth’s April campaign, according to the Missouri Ethics Commission.
The city did not announce an appointment date. Whoever is appointed will serve out the remained of Waner’s term, through April 2024, according to an early October press release from the city.
Those interested in running have to be a qualified and registered voter in Ward 2, according to previous reporting. Applicants can also not hold “any other lucrative public officer no any lucrative position in the City government.” Applications can be picked up and completed at the city clerk’s office, or can be downloaded from the city’s website.
