Missourians for Constitutional Freedom set to turn in petition signatures

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missourians for Constitutional Freedom will turn in petition signatures Friday to put right to reproductive freedom on the November ballot. If there are enough signatures to put the amendment on the ballot then voters in Missouri will be able to vote on the state's abortion ban.

For this amendment to get on the ballot it needs around 180,000 approved signatures. The group will deliver these signatures to the Secretary of State's office then followed by a rally at 11 a.m.

The initiative petition aims to codify abortion rights in the Missouri constitution, included is access to abortion, birth control, and miscarriage management.

In a court case last year, a Cole County judge threw out a ballot measure due to the language of the question after a law suit from the ACLU.

Republicans have made initiative petition reform a priority to increase the majority of voters from 51% to 57% or more for it to pass. A senate vote on that issue was one of the demands the Freedom Caucus was making during their record long filibuster that ended Thursday morning.
