Longtime Mid-Missouri congressman stepping down
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A congressman who has represented parts of Mid-Missouri over several terms said Thursday that he's stepping down when this one ends.
U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, a Republican representing Missouri's Third District, broke the news in a release from his congressional office.
“It has been [an] honor to serve the great people of the Third Congressional District and State of Missouri these past several years," Luetkemeyer wrote. "However, after a lot of thoughtful discussion with my family, I have decided to not file for re-election and retire at the end of my term in December."
Luetkemeyer said he would continue to work on issues facing the country until his term ends.

Luetkemeyer was first elected to Congress in 2009. He is chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions and serves on the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and the House Small Business Committee.
Luetkemeyer has represented parts of Mid-Missouri since he took office but the boundaries of his district changed before the last term to include half of Boone County, including part of Columbia. Other district counties are Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Gasconade, Jefferson, Maries, Miller, Montgomery, Moniteau, Osage, St. Charles, Warren and Washington.
He is married with three children and seven grandchildren.
Luetkemeyer is the only Republican with an active campaign committee for the Third District seat. Democrat Jon Karlen is the only other person with a committee, according to Federal Election Commission records.
