State Rep. Sara Walsh to run for Congress; State Sen. Caleb Rowden considering run
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Missouri State Rep. Sara Walsh, R-Ashland, announced her bid for Congress in Missouri’s 4th Congressional District.
Walsh is seeking to replace Rep. Vicky Hartzler. Hartzler is running for U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Sen. Roy Blunt. Hartzler's run for senate opens up her 4th District congressional seat.
Walsh was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2017, representing Southern Boone County, along with portions of Cooper, Moniteau, and Cole counties.
“Our current Congresswoman, Vicky Hartzler, has done a phenomenal job representing our conservative Missouri values, and I look forward to continuing her strong legacy of service to the 4th District,” said Walsh.
State Sen. Caleb Rowden, R-Columbia, announced on social media he is considering a run for the seat as well.
In the post, he said he will decide shortly if serving in Congress "is where I can have the greatest impact to stop the far-left's assault on our values and restore the American Dream for all Missourians."
Rowden was first elected to the Senate in 2016. Rowden is currently serving as the Senate Majority Floor Leader.
Former state senator Ed Emery of Vernon County announced his plan to run last month. Cass County Associate Commissioner Ryan Johnson announced last month his intent to run, as well. Democrat J.D. Leathers of Cass County also filed paperwork with the FEC to run, the only Democrat to file so far.
