QUESTION OF THE DAY: Should the Senate end use of the filibuster?
The filibuster has become a major issue in Congress.
Progressive Democrats say it should be eliminated because the threat of a filibuster means the minority Republicans are able to hold up key legislation. The Senate's 50-50 split means Democrats don't have the votes needed to end a filibuster and force a vote.
Republicans and some moderate Democrats such as West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin say the filibuster provides an important check on the congressional majority.
