March – Why can’t I relax?

When relaxation is another task on your to-do list, it can feel more like stress-laxing than relaxing. Constantly running to achieve every day demands and responsibilities can overheat our brains and make it difficult to cool down. Luckily, Burrell Behavioral Health has some approachable tools to integrate relaxation into our lives.

February – SCHOLAR Clinic/Wellness Visits

Each time a child is sick, it impacts an estimated four workdays for their parents. SCHOLAR Clinic, a school-based clinic in collaboration with Columbia Public Schools and Clarity Healthcare, helps parents juggle the responsibilities of caretaking and careers. Working with school nurses and parents, SCHOLAR Clinic can see and treat sick kids on the same day, helping them get back to school sooner and healthier faster.

January – Self Care

Originally used as a medical concept, for many women, self-care has become another item on the to-do list and an avenue of self-judgment. Everything from air purifiers, cold plunges, serums, and even Botox have been rebranded as the self-care cure to stress, burnout and depression. But these products are not delivering on their promises. Self-care is more about the internal work within us than anything that can be purchased.

December – Mental Load

In the majority of U.S. families, women do more of the household chores compared to men, even when both spouses work full-time jobs. This mental load intensifies when kids and holiday expectations come into the picture. The stress of women’s additional mental load can cause long-term health impacts and strain on family relationships. Luckily, there is a path forward for stressed-out partners not only for holiday relief but for more fairness year-round.
