Weather Alert Day: Strong storms possible Sunday

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for the potential of strong storms on Sunday.

A complex of storms moving out of Nebraska will dive into Mid-Missouri early Sunday afternoon and bring the possibility of damaging winds and hail.

SETUP:

Hot and humid conditions across the region have ushered in enhanced instability over Mid-MO. That fuel could sustain severe storms if the storm complex holds together. A fast-moving disturbance may also aid in forcing those storms to keep going across the state into late Sunday afternoon. The threat of severe weather remains conditional on whether or not storms sustain themselves into the afternoon.

IMPACTS:

If storms do arrive, they will quickly become severe with the potential of widespread damaging winds up to 60-70 mph along with numerous 1" hail reports. Storms would likely weaken with time into Sunday night.

PREPARE:

Have alternate plans to stay inside Sunday if storms move in. Make sure you have a way to receive up-to-date information and active warnings if they are issued. Download the free ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather app and sign up for notifications to stay informed.
