No fatalities, nearly 300 crashes reported on state roads during storm response
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
No fatalities have been reported on Missouri roads, but nearly 300 crashes have occurred during a counting period related to Thursday night’s winter storm, the Missouri State Highway Patrol wrote in a Friday evening social media post.
Roughly 4 inches of snow fell in Columbia on Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
In a period from 3 p.m. Thursday-3 p.m. Friday, there have been 1,163 calls for MSHP service, 620 stranded motorists, 292 crashes and 11 injuries.
Road conditions from the storm led to a number of area schools, including Columbia Public Schools and the Jefferson City School District, to call off classes on Friday.
Thursday night's storm was the second this week the led to widespread snow cover on Missouri roads and school closures.
