Man dies in Audrain County crash

AUDRAIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 72-year-old Mexico, Missouri, man died Thursday in an Audrain County crash at the intersection of Audrain Road 233 and North Rangeline Road, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash occurred AS A 2010 Ford Focus – driven by Gretchen Whipple, 19, of Mexico, Missouri -- was heading west ON Audrain Road 208 and turned south onto North Rangeline Road, according to the report. Whipple pulled her vehicle in front of a 1994 International Grain Truck – driven by Kenneth Riechers.

The truck went off the left side of the road, overturned and hit a tree. Riechers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Audrain County coroner and was brought to Arnold Funeral Home, the report states. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report.

Whipple and her passenger – Christina Smith, 18, of Mexico, Missouri – suffered moderate injuries and were brought to University Hospital by ambulance, the report states. Both women were wearing seatbelts.

Both vehicles were totaled, according to the report.
