BENTON COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The sheriff of Benton County and his wife are at University Hospital in Columbia after a motorcycle crash.

As of 5:45 a.m. Monday, a spokesperson with University Hospital said Sheriff Eric Knox was listed in fair condition and his wife Joy was in critical condition.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports, the crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday on the Mile Long Bridge on Highway 7.

Troopers said the motorcycle's back tire began to shred, causing Eric Knox to lose control. The motorcycle then overturned and hit the bridge, ejecting both of them.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Sunday about the crash.

"Please keep them in your prayers for healing and a speedy recovery," the post said.
