Man arrested on suspicion of fatal DWI crash into Sedalia restaurant
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
One person was killed, five others were hurt and a man was arrested after a truck crashed into a Sedalia Wendy's restaurant Monday.
Sedalia Police Department Commander David Woolery said in a statement 62-year-old Dennis Weaver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated when the crash happened.
Sedalia police said the crash happened just before 6 p.m. Weaver's pickup truck was driving southbound on Limit Avenue when it drove off the east side of the road, officers said.
According to a news release, Woolery's truck hit several trees and a bench before hitting the Wendy's. Police said several people were hit before the truck came to a stop several feet inside the restaurant.
One woman was killed in the crash. A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and a juvenile was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Three other adults were also hurt.
Woolery said investigators started looking into the crash.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges have been filed in the case.
A spokesperson for Wendy's said the restaurant was devastated by the deadly crash.
The Wendy's official said it's unclear when the restaurant will reopen. The spokesperson said workers will deliver breakfast to Sedalia first responders.
