Jefferson City police are reporting one person is dead and a passenger is injured after a two-vehicle afternoon crash on Highway 179 in Jefferson City.

Just before 5 p.m., Jefferson City police responded to a crash involving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica and a 2004 Ford Ranger.

Police say both vehicles were westbound on US 50 and were approaching the off-ramp to MO 179 when the Chrysler suddenly veered into the left lane and struck the Ford, which ran off the left side of the roadway into the median where it came to a stop. The Chrysler then skidded off the right side of the roadway and hit several trees and an embankment.

The occupants of the Chrysler 78-year-old David Mueller and 75-year-old Anne Mueller were extricated
by the Jefferson City Fire Department.

David and Anne were taken to a local hospital by EMS, where David died from his injuries. Anne was reported to have moderate injuries. David was not wearing a seatbelt, Anne was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ford reported no injury and declined medical attention at the scene.

The off-ramp from westbound US 50 to MO 179 was restricted for three hours while the scene was investigated.
