CALLAWAY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Crews removed the Route D bridge over Interstate 70 in Callaway County Tuesday night.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed I-70 in both directions from Route D to Route A at 9 p.m. Tuesday to take down the bridge. The interstate reopened just after 5 a.m. Wednesday.

MoDOT tweeted that while traffic is flowing along I-70, crews will be working alongside the road to replace the bridge, so drivers will need to slow down and watch for workers.

According to MoDOT, the bridge will be closed for up to three months.

The project is part of Gov. Mike Parson's $351 million "Focus on Bridges" initiative to replace roughly 250 bridges across the state.
