Parking issues prompt request for ‘no parking’ signs on Ponderosa Street

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Commission is expected to discuss potential "No Parking Anytime" signs on a street just south of Columbia Tuesday morning.

The Road and Bridge Department is concerned that renters from the duplexes in the area off Ponderosa St. are parking on both sides of the road, impacting travel for commercial vehicles. This is set to be a topic of discussion in the Boone County Commission meeting starting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Director of the Maintenance Operations Division, Gregory Edington, sent a letter to the Boone County Commission requesting "No Parking Anytime" signs on Ponderosa St. from Meadow Lark Lane to where its intersection with Meyer Industrial Drive.

Edington recommends 12 "No Parking Anytime" signs along both sides of the road. The letter states that this area is always filled with renters parking on both sides of the road right-of-way, making it difficult for vehicles like dump trucks and tractor-trailers to get through. Edington cites in the letter that most vehicles are never moved and the parking makes it impossible to mow the right-of-way and maintain the edge of the road.

The posted speed limit in the area is 45 MPH, making a 10-foot buffer desirable for safety reasons, according to the letter.
