Two vehicles trapped in Columbia floods prompt water rescue

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Fire Department and Boone County Fire Protection District were called to a water rescue Thursday morning after two vehicles became trapped in floodwaters in west Columbia.

Just before 5:30 a.m., ABC 17 News crews saw two vehicles stuck in floodwaters on Blackfoot Road and Bear Creek. Crews saw three to four Columbia Fire trucks respond, as well as a rescue boat on scene. ABC 17 News crews also saw two people walking away from the floodwaters with first responders and appeared to be uninjured.

Columbia Fire Department spokesperson Skyler Clark later said firefighters were dispatched at 5:17 a.m. for vehicles trapped in floodwater. Clark says three people were rescued safely with no injuries and led out of the water within 10 minutes upon firefighters' arrival.

Columbia Fire crews left the area just before 6 a.m., and tow trucks were on scene removing the vehicles stuck in the floodwaters.

The Boone County Fire Protection District was dispatched for potential mutual aid.

Columbia Fire posted on X about the rescue at 6:16 a.m., stating that two cars were trapped by high water. Crews were able to get the people out of the cars within minutes.

Boone County Joint Communications sent a message at 5:50 a.m. stating Blackfoot Road from Stadium Blvd to O'Neal Road is closed due to flooding. Choose an alternate route.
