Missouri Task Force One to return to Boone County following flood response in Southeast Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri Task Force One team members are expected to make their return in Boone County on Monday.

In a news release on Sunday, MOTF-1 said it's nearing completion of its flood response mission in southeast Missouri after supporting statewide response efforts in Reynolds and Iron counties.

Since arriving on Friday, the task force searched more than 100 damaged structures, more than 90 damaged campers and more than 120 damaged vehicles. Operating by both boat and on foot, the release says crews covered multiple miles of flooded waterways and surrounding terrain, confirming the welfare of residents who remained sheltered on higher ground.

Boone County Fire Protection District's Disaster Situational Assessment and Reconnaissance team also played a significant role throughout the operation. DSAR mapped more than 1,500 acres and collected more than 6,000 assessment images.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol also located a rescue boat that two troopers had to abandon in the flooded Black River on Friday after running into a submerged line.

Regional Coordinators with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency will continue to assist local officials with initial damage assessments this week. As of yesterday, the Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO DMAT-1) also deployed to Lesterville to provide patient care for first responders and flooding survivors. They’ve treated a couple responders injured in the debris, assisted some individuals with refilling prescriptions that were lost to the floods, and have conducted welfare checks for those unable to leave their homes.
