Police chase ends with standoff in Camden County
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
One person was taken into custody after a standoff and chase with Lake Area law enforcement on Monday.
Lake Ozark Police said in a news release that officers tried to pull over a driver around 8:41 p.m. Monday near the Lake Ozark and Osage Beach city limits.
Jason Hinesely of Roach, Missouri, was charged with stealing a gun, forgery, aggravated fleeing, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He was not listed on the Camden County Jail's online roster on Tuesday afternoon.
A chase started when the vehicle went westbound on Highway 54 after police tried to conduct a traffic stop for expired plates, the probable cause statement says. Officers used spike strips near Route KK, which the car hit, but continued on Highway 54. According to the release, the car also hit spike strips near Camdenton. The chase at one point eclipsed 95 miles per hour.
The chase ended near 8:53 p.m. on Old Highway 5, just north of Camdenton, when police forced the vehicle to stop.
The probable cause statement says that police say Hinesely pointed a gun to his own head and refused to drop it. A standoff lasted 52 minutes until he gave himself up. Court documents say Hinesely did not initially stop for law enforcement because he wanted police to kill him.
The gun was reported stolen, court documents say.
Osage Beach Police, Camden County Sheriff's Office, Camdenton Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force assisted Lake Ozark police.
