COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said it has received several reports of vehicles being followed, according to a public safety announcement posted on Facebook Saturday.

"People are reporting vehicles flashing lights at them and then following them for several miles even after turning to avoid being followed," the post says.

Officers say they have no vehicle or suspect information and urge the public to be aware of their surroundings amid increasing incidents.

People who find themselves in this situation are asked to dial 911 immediately and drive to the nearest police station.

"...Or if you see a law enforcement officer sitting stationary; stop and notify them of the situation," the post says. "You should remain calm and obey all traffic laws to avoid any collisions."

Victims of this type of behavior or people who have vehicle information are asked to contact the Moberly Joint Communication Center.
