2 teenagers seriously injured in Phelps County crash, flown to separate hospitals

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two teenagers were seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 44 at mile marker 170, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The report does not state which man was driving the 2005 Ford F-150. The crash occurred as the truck was heading eastbound and went off the left side of the road, overturned and hit a tree, the report says. Both men were ejected.

An 18-year-old man from St. Robert was flown to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, while a 19-year-old from Spring Hill, Florida, was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, the report says.

The Ford was totaled.

A Phelps County fire department said Friday evening that it was responding to a "major" crash on Interstate 44.

The Doolittle Fire Protection District posted on social media at about 5 p.m. that firefighters had responded to a "major motor vehicle crash." The post said reports from the scene indicated several people were thrown from their vehicles.

"Two medical helicopters have been dispatched," the post says.
