Columbia Fire Department responds to two house fires amid severe thunderstorms

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Fire Department responded to two house fires and 77 emergency calls amid severe thunderstorms on Friday.
CFD was called to the 10 block of Navahoe Avenue a little after 4:00 p.m. for a reported residential fire, according to a press release. 12 Columbia Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the building and growing rapidly.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, the press release says. The origin and cause are under investigation.
CFD responded to a second house fire in the 1100 block of Elleta Boulevard shortly before 5:00 p.m. The incident occurred at the same time as the previous fire, the press release says.
11 Columbia Fire crews responded to a duplex showing heavy flames. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.
Both house fires were occupied, according to the press release.
"Despite the challenges posed by the severe weather and high call volume, Columbia Fire Department firefighters responded swiftly and effectively to protect lives and property," the press release sayd. "Both fires were contained to their respective structures, preventing further damage to neighboring buildings, and there were no injuries at either fire."
