COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A tire blowout caused a crash that closed eastbound Interstate 70 in Callaway County on Friday morning.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

A Honda Accord driven by a 21-year-old Wentzville, Missouri, man suffered a blowout while driving in the right eastbound lane at mile marker 141.8 a little after 8:30 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol states in a preliminary crash report.

The Accord slid into the passing lane and was hit by a Ford Edge SUV driven by a 24-year-old woman from Bowling Green, Missouri, according to the report. The vehicles were disabled in the crash and blocked the road.

A 1-year-old riding in the Accord and the Edge driver had minor injuries. They were taken to Boone Hospital by private vehicle.

The crash caused authorities to close the eastbound lanes and divert traffic. Traffic started flowing again through the closed section around 9:30 a.m. However, a large backup remained.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw flames coming from one of the vehicles.

The area is a construction zone, leaving little room for cars to maneuver.
