COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -
The University of Missouri campus will do work remotely on Monday in light of winter storms over the weekend.
Columbia Public Schools immediately followed with a text to families saying Monday classes would be canceled, with students expected to use "alternative methods of instruction." Jefferson City School District said around 3:30 p.m. that it would close schools on Monday.
The university said its campus workers and UM System workers in Columbia would move to remote operations for the entire day on Jan. 6. The school said employees would fall into three categories of work:
- Those who aren’t required to work on-site and will telework from home or another location. Staff who do not telework must use their available accrued paid time off.
- Those who are non-exempt (hourly) and are required to work on-site may be eligible to receive premium pay; those who are required to work on-site and choose not to must use their available accrued paid time off.
- Those who cannot carry out their duties through telework and who are instructed that they are not required on-site to work will be compensated.
Lincoln University announced it would also operate remotely on Monday. William Woods University in Fulton closed campus on Monday. Columbia College said its campus would be closed during the day for classes, and night classes would be held virtually.
Several other K-12 schools have called off school for Monday. Mexico Public Schools, Maries County R-1 and Tipton so far have canceled classes.
CPS students are expected to study topics they've already learned about on AMI days such as Monday.
