VERSAILLES, Mo. (KMIZ) -

Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for a reported stabbing on Friday afternoon.

The Versailles Police Department said it took Codee Munson into custody for allegedly stabbing 69-year-old Carl Vernon Goodman. Munson faces possible charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

A news release said officers were dispatched to the alleyway behind the West View Shopping Center just off Westview Drive at 2:09 p.m. on Friday to help someone who had been stabbed in the neck. The release said the suspect in the stabbing had run away to a nearby hotel. Officers eventually caught up with Munson there and arrested him for assault.

The department said Goodman was taken away from the scene in an ambulance and was pronounced dead at 2:51 p.m.

Police clerk Katie Pryor told ABC 17 News that Munson had been booked into the Morgan County Jail.
