COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Board of Education is set to meet Wednesday with plans to talk about names for its new elementary school.

That meeting will start at 4:45 p.m. at the Columbia Public School District Administration building.

The board will appoint a committee of community members, students and staff that will help workshop names for the elementary school being built on the South side of Columbia near John Warner Middle School on Sinclair Road. The long-range facilities planning committee will look at the policy for naming.

Officials say the school is expected to hold 750 students and is slated to open in the fall of 2026.

After the meeting to discuss names, the board will hold a listening session to give the community an opportunity to voice thoughts and concerns to the board. That session will run from 5:30 p.m. 7 p.m. at Paxton Keely Elementary School.
