COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU Health Care is encouraging people to stay up to date on their vaccinations. The healthcare provider is hosting a drive-thru COVID-19 and flu vaccination event in Columbia at South Providence Medical Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Flu shots are available to anyone 6 months and older while updated COVID-19 vaccines are open for anyone over the age of five.

MU Health Care will have two additional drive-thru days on Oct. 12 and Oct. 26 in Columbia.

"It has increased in popularity and we have given thousands of vaccines for the last two years," said MU Health Care Chief Medical Officer Dr. Laura Morris. "We anticipate this year to be another record-setting year and we are ready to get started."

Patients are asked to wear loose clothing and short sleeves, especially for young children who will get the shot in the thigh. Patients should also bring their insurance card and be prepared to sign a consent form before the vaccine.

According to MU Health Care's announcement online Morris said, “We are so pleased to offer this convenient option in hopes of reducing serious respiratory illnesses and hospitalizations during the winter months.”

Morris recommends that everyone age 6 months and older get a flu and COVID-19 vaccination. There is also no health risks of getting both a flu and COVID-19 vaccination at the same time.

"It's a really cup-filling experience for us in health care because we know that this type of prevention is good for the community, it's great for public health," said Morris.
