Special prosecutor to review June standoff, shooting in Sturgeon
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A special prosecutor in northeast Missouri will decide whether any law enforcement officers involved in a deadly June standoff will face criminal charges.
Marion County Prosecutor Luke Bryant's office will review the case file prepared by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on the standoff that ended in the death of Damion Linder. Sgt. Bradley Germann with the Division of Drug and Crime Control told ABC 17 News in a phone call Monday that investigators gave Bryant's office their work on Friday.
Linder died after an hours-long standoff at a mobile home park in Sturgeon on June 4. The Boone County Sheriff's Office said law enforcement returned fire toward Linder when he allegedly shot at them while they were serving an arrest warrant for domestic assault.
An ABC 17 News reporter at the scene that day saw clouds of dust swirling as bullets hit the ground around deputies on the Columbia Police Department's BearCat armored vehicle. Officers from Hallsville and Sturgeon also responded to the scene that day to surround the home where Linder was holed up.
Capt. Brian Leer of the Boone County Sheriff's Office told ABC 17 News that day that he was unsure which agencies fired their guns during the standoff. Leer also said the highway patrol's investigation would look into whether Linder died by suicide or if a law enforcement officer shot him.
Bryant's office did not return a call seeking comment on Monday.
