Father and daughter die in boating accident on Gasconade River Sunday night

OSAGE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A father and daughter died in a boating accident Sunday night on the Gasconade River near Pointers Creek in Osage County, according to Osage County Sheriff Michael Bonham.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states the 20220 Gatorboat had seven people on it when the crash happened at 7 p.m. on Sunday in Osage County on the Gasconade River.

Reven Newbound, 30, of Owensville, was traveling upstream on a 2002 Gatorboat when it hit a root wad causing the boat to hit a rock bluff.

Newbound along with a 7-year-old girl from Owensville died, according to the report.

Four others were seriously injured, including Samantha Newbound, 29, of Owensville, along with three children; a baby boy, a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl.

All the children were reported to be wearing life jackets at the time of the crash but none of the adults. Taylor McClure, 21, of Bland had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

All of the victims in the crash were taken to University Hospital. ABC 17 News has reached out to MU Health Care for any updates.

"The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Division is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine what led to this unfortunate event," Bonham said in an email.
