Boone County Jail inmate dies

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Ashland man died in the Boone County Jail Friday after an officer saw him showing signs of medical distress, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

According to a Facebook post from the department, at around 3 p.m. Friday, the Ashland Police Department brought William Gipson, 43, to the Boone County jail after he was arrested in Ashland.

While officers at the jail were booking him, Gipson became uncooperative and was physically restrained, according to the post.

Around 6:30 p.m., an officer noticed Gipson was showing signs of medical distress and got jail personnel and medical staff to help him. Gipson then became unresponsive and CPR was administered, however, Gipson died, according to the department.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating Gipson's death. This is currently an active investigation.
