Classes for the Jefferson City School District begin Monday
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Monday marks the first day school for the Jefferson City School District.
This school year, the district will be welcoming students with a new school bus service. In December, the district decided to hire Student Transportation of America, which resulted in the district getting 62 new buses from the company.
The new contract went into effect July 1 and will end in 2027.
ABC 17 News spoke with Capital City High School principle Beth Houf and she said that they are very optimistic about the transition to the new bus services, but with all new things it'll take a few days to get the kinks out.
"Working with them all summer, I know that they are very flexible and willing to work with us," said Houf. "So that is, you know, for us, just what can we do a little bit better? As we learn better, we'll do better for sure."
Last week, ABC 17 News spoke with Superintendent Brian McGraw and he said that the top priority for the district this school year is attenance.
The district is focused on increasing attendance, and has been every year since the Covid-19 pandemic.
This school year, the district is expecting over 8,000 students and 1,500 staff.
