Cole County Clerk’s office to conduct post-election voting machine testing Monday
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Cole County Clerk's office will be conducting a post-election voting machine test Monday.
This is the second round of testing after voting machines were checked before the August Primary on July 25. Monday's testing and the one before the election were previously scheduled.
Cole County also did a random selection for a manual recount on the day of the election.
Cole County Clerk Steve Korsmeyer said that representatives from both Democratic and Republican parties come and take part in these test as well.
"They put a series of pre marked ballots through," said Korsmeyer. "And then we check the count to make sure the machines are counting accurately. And then we have, a group of people, party representatives again that will come in and they will sit down and they will hand-count two precincts to verify.  the machines are counting correctly."
The Verification Board then comes in and verifies the test conducted.
The county clerk's office conducts these pre and post-election testing after every election. "We go through and test every machine with a pre mark deck of ballots to make sure they count correctly. And then we do it after the election. So this is the process. It's a pretty good pretty secure process," said Korsmeyer.
Korsmeyer said that in the 10 years he's been in Cole County there has never been an error, but if one was to occur then the ballots would have to be hand counted.
