City of Columbia to hold work session Monday for fiscal year 2025 budget
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The City of Columbia will be holding a work session meeting Monday to continue discussions about its budget for the 2025 fiscal year.
Columbia residents were encouraged to attend last week's budget message where the city discussed several priorities including infrastructure, housing and public safety. Monday's work session will be open to the pubic as well.
The budget message from last Thursday also proposed a new violence prevention office, and city leaders explained that the city will have its own budget. It wont take money already spent on other areas.
The proposed budget for the 2025 fiscal year comes in at a $26 million deficit. The city will is bringing in $532 million dollars compared to the $558 million it expects to spend.
Monday's work session will be at 2:30 p.m. at City Hall and copies of the proposed budget will be available for the public to see in the lobby.
City council will vote on the proposed budget on Sept. 16.
