Both lanes of Westbound I-70 back open after rollover crash

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Both lanes of Westbound I-70 are back open following a crash involving a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning.

The area of the Interstate just before the 133 exit near mile marker 135 was down to one lane for several hours as crews worked to clean up the debris.

The tractor-trailer was towed away around 7:15 a.m. and both lanes were opened for travel.

Gale Blomenkamp, Boone County Fire Protection District assistant chief said the crash happened around 2 a.m. when the tractor-trailer rolled over blocking both lanes of I-70 Westbound.

Blomenkamp said a vehicle then hit the tractor-trailer.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the 2022 Freightliner Cascadia driven by 46-year-old Aleksic Sasa of Seminole, Florida flipped onto its left side, blocking the interstate. Around 1:50 a.m. a 2017 Subaru Outback driven by 63-year-old Mary Back of Fulton hit the semi.

Back was taken to University Hospital with moderate injuries and Sasa was also taken to the hospital for an evaluation, according to the crash report.

Both the Cascadia and Outback were totaled. Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt, according to the crash report.

Westbound I-70 Traffic was backed up to the Millersburg exit. Traffic was diverted to the Millersburg exit, Blomenkamp said, and onto Route Z.

ABC 17 News crews at the scene saw an ambulance, Boone County Fire Protection District fire trucks, and Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicles.

A crew was on scene with bulldozers and an excavator to clean up leftover debris from the crash.
