Man pleads guilty to rape, sentenced to nine years in prison

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 24-year-old man who pleaded guilty to rape and other sex crimes on Monday was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Elijah Schwartz –who is listed as being from Ohio on Casenet – pleaded guilty to first-degree rape, second-degree domestic assault and two counts of second-degree sodomy. He was initially charged with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy and fourth-degree assault. 

According to court documents from previous reporting, the victim met Schwartz through the dating application Tinder and went to his apartment after dinner on Oct. 6, 2022. The victim stayed at Schwartz’s apartment overnight, the statement said.

The when victim tried to leave, Schwartz grabbed their throat and choked and slapped them before sexually assaulting them, according to previous reporting.
