TSA prepares for busiest end-of-year travel days, what you can do to be prepared at the gate
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
As the holiday season is underway, and Christmas is less than a week away, the Transportation Security Administration is preparing for busy travel days ahead.
TSA estimates they could screen over 2.5 million passengers a day. The busiest days for travel are expected to be Thursday Dec. 21, Friday Dec. 29, and Monday Jan. 1.
The number of people flying this holiday season is expected to be 6% higher than 2022, according to TSA.
One of the biggest recommendations is to arrive to the airport earlier, rather than just in time. That way, you will have time to park, find a rental car and to check baggage before going through security.
TSA also says not to wrap gifts before you travel, as they may need to be unwrapped. Use bags or boxes that can be easily checked by security, instead.
Officials are also warning of potential bad weather that could impact travel this year. They recommend checking directly with your airline for updates on your flight.
The first flight kicking off the busy holiday travel at Columbia Regional Airport will depart at 5:25 a.m. Thursday.
