MU football game will honor military members, traffic impacts expected

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Saturday, the 16th-ranked University of Missouri Tigers will go head to head against the 14th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers at 2:30 p.m. with special military appreciation events planned in light of Veterans Day.

The Mizzou Tigers will be wearing their special all-black Veterans Day uniforms. The helmet is also black with a large yellow M logo and a special design featuring all the different military branches.

The university is also selling its new military appreciation game shirts to fans.

Whiteman Air Force Base in Johnson County will also be doing a flyover at the game. Several tributes will be held on the field to honor military members for their service.

In preparation for military and veteran guests, the university held a green zone training session on Wednesday, previewing what faculty and staff can expect when they arrive and how staffers can assist.

Keith Glindemann, Director of MU Veterans Center said Mizzou athletics gave about 110 game tickets to student cadets and ROTC members.

Large crowds are expected for today's game, leading to some traffic impacts around Memorial Stadium and downtown.

Multiple roads will be closed before and after the game according to the university's website.

Mick Deaver Drive, located next to the stadium will be closed from lot J to lot K.

If you have a pass for lots B or J, MU requests you enter through the Mick Deaver Drive and Stadium Boulevard intersection.

Research Park Drive will have closings stretching from Lot R to Lot Y.

Outbound traffic will only allow right-hand turn exits to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.

Several public parking spaces will be open in downtown Columbia and free parking at parking garages downtown and one on Hitt Street

GOCOMO will also be offering free shuttle rides running on a 10-minute cycle. The final departure will be at 2:15 p.m.

Returning trips will begin at the end of the third quarter and the final departure will be 30 minutes after the game ends.

The university has also provided additional maps regarding parking information, shuttle routes and public parking.
