Jefferson City Public Works and Planning Committee set to discuss a return to normal transit services
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Public Works and Planning Committee held a meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, at city hall discussing the return of transit going back to full time operations.
In a press release, the city said JEFFTRAN services will return to normal starting on October 2nd.
Due to driving shortages, JEFFTRAN had to condense its routes from six to three, with 40 to 80 minute gaps in between alternating routes.
JEFFTRAN has hired four new drivers to replace the ones they had lost in the fall and early spring.
"This should help our service out and really help the citizens a lot who have been suffering for this past eight to nine months," Gerry Stegeman, Director of Jefferson City Transit Division said.
Stegeman also added that the new drivers are almost fully trained, so he feels they are in "good shape" to bring back normal functions by the time normal operations are set to begin
It wasn't until April of 2023, the orange and black routes were reintroduced, running on normal operation.
The council also voted to increase the bus fares by a 50% minimum. However, it was met with discontent, as some members thought it would decrease the number of riders taking the JEFFTRAN.
