Columbia Police Review Board set to hold meeting to review police policies
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Police Review Board is set to meet Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall to review various police policies pertaining to use of force (policy 300) and body worn cameras (policy 447), which have been on the CPRD's agenda since June.
They will also discuss policies covering the use of handcuffing, restraining (policy 306), interviews and interrogations by police (policy 440).
According to Columbia Police Department's policy and procedure manual, none of these policies have been updated since of earliest 2021.
The board says any changes to policies should help officers avoid future conflicts when possible.
The meeting comes after two officers voluntarily resigned in May for their alleged use of force and an officer-involved shooting with a suicidal man last month.
The board will also discuss the hiring process for a new Chief of Police after former chief Geoff Jones retired back in June. The position has since been filled by Interim Chief Matt Stephens, however the department is still looking for a full time replacement.
