Betty Hayes family speaks out after arrest was made in her death

MONROE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

After more than a year of searching, investigators have arrested 65-year-old Lyle Miller on suspicion of 88-year-old Betty Hayes' murder.

Around 8 Friday evening, investigators arrested 65-year-old Madison man Lyle W. Miller and the Monroe County Prosecutor formally charged Miller with second-degree murder. Miller is being held without bond.

Nearly a year and a half later she has been found, and the news of her recovery has been an emotional one for her family.

The Hayes family described her as loving, hardworking and caring. They said she was a nurse for more than 35 years and lived in her farmhouse in Holliday for more than 60 years.

ABC 17 spoke with her son Mike Hayes Sunday afternoon who declined an interview but tells us they are thankful for all the help to find his mom.

"We are thankful for the help of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in finding my mom. At this time we ask that everyone respects our family's privacy as we deal with the emotions this news has brought to us." Hayes said in a statement.
