Family of recovering Hermann officer says he’s improving every day
HERMANN, Mo. (KMIZ)
The family of Hermann Police Officer Adam Sullentrup released a statement on social media thanking everyone for the support and providing an update on his recovery.
Sullentrup's family said he is improving every day. He is in the intensive care unit, but he has recently been upgraded from "critical" condition to "stable."
Two weeks ago, a blue alert went out because Kenneth Lee Simpson allegedly shot Sullentrup and Sgt. Mason Griffith.
According to MSHP, Griffith and Sullentrup responded to Casey's General Store near Market Street on Sunday around 9:00 p.m. in an attempt to arrest Kenneth Lee Simpson for warrants in multiple counties.
The highway patrol says an altercation took place and Griffith and Sullentrup were shot. Griffith, unfortunately, died from his injuries. His funeral was held last week in Owensville.
Simpson was arrested after an overnight standoff.
Officers were outside a home on Market Street where they believed Simpson was holed up. Simpson is from St. Louis County, the Associated Press reported.
A team filled the house with gas before 2 p.m. and got a man out. The individual was put in handcuffs and walked away. An ABC 17 News reporter said after the initial pops of the gas, there were two bangs inside the house.
Several police agencies including the highway patrol confirmed the arrest. Gasconade County Sheriff Chris Heitman said in a Facebook post that Simpson was arrested using the handcuffs of the officer he allegedly killed.
