Springfield man accused of robbery in Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Springfield man was charged after being accused of robbing two people on Monday in the 500 block of East Nifong in Columbia.
Bryson Wilks, 18, is charged with first-degree robbery. He is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail.
Two people told Columbia police said they were robbed by several men with guns, according to a probable cause statement. The alleged victims said their backpacks – which contained credit cards and weed – was stolen.
They said they met suspects at a Mcdonald's and were followed to a Hy-Vee gas station in the area. Officers obtained video footage from Hy-Vee that showed a black Volkswagen Passat. The alleged victims were seen speaking to the people in the vehicle before the robbery allegedly took place.
The registration of the vehicle was checked back to a rent-to-own company, who allegedly told police the car was leased to Wilks.
On Tuesday, a Columbia police officer saw the vehicle in the 2400 block of Paris Road and detained Wilks. There was a gun in the trunk of the vehicle, according to the probable cause statement.
The alleged victims were brought in and separately identified Wilks as one of the people who robbed them.
The probable cause statement says Wilks remembered going to McDonald’s but did not remember going to Hy-Vee because he was drunk. He allegedly told police that a few males tried to sell him and his friends weed at McDonald’s Â
