Man faces several charges after allegedly breaking into classroom at East Elementary
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A homeless man faces several charges after police say he broke into a school classroom trailer.
Tarrance Woods, 37, is charged with second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, making a false report and second-degree property damage.
Woods is being held without bond at the Cole County Jail. A bond-review hearing was held Wednesday. He appeared by video from the jail.
Another bond review is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17. An arraignment hearing was held Dec. 28.
Jefferson City police responded to a burglary alarm at East Elementary School at 3:18 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22.
Officers found Woods standing in one of the classroom trailer while holding a remote to turn on a projector, according to a probable cause statement. Woods allegedly told officers he was working on “school stuff.” He did not have a key to the building and was arrested.
Woods first identified himself as “Matigg Woods,” with a different birthday, according to the statement. He allegedly had broken glass on his shoes and jacket. Officers allegedly found a plastic bag that contained methamphetamine.
Woods allegedly told officers that he was suicidal and swallowed half a gram of heroin. He was brought to a hospital for evaluation. Hospital staff said an uncapped syringe fell from Woods’ rectum, according to the statement.
Hospital staff later called police to say Woods was going by a different name than what he told officers.
Woods has prior convictions for distributing a controlled substance, robbery, stealing, assault, domestic assault, resisting arrest and possessing a weapon in jail, according to the statement.
