COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia police arrested a teenager following a chase and crash near the on-ramp heading on eastbound Interstate 70 on Wednesday night.

Police identified a vehicle near Business Loop 70 and Providence Road on Wednesday night that was reported stolen, according to a CPD spokesman.

Police tried to enact a traffic stop, but the driver sped away. The vehicle went north on Providence Road and attempted to merge onto Interstate 70, where it crashed.

The Boone County Joint Communications tweeted that there was a collision in the area.

The driver is younger than 18 years old and was detained by the Cole County Juvenile Office, according to the spokesman. Another youth was taken into custody, but was released.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw several police units on both sides of the exit, including a K-9 at the scene. Ambulances were also at the scene. Providence Road is still open. The reporter also saw a police officer walking with a male towards the eastbound ramp on Interstate 70.

The vehicle was reported stolen Wednesday morning in the 200 block of Bingham Road. The keys of the vehicle were left inside.
