Columbia City Council to discuss roll cart ban on Monday

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia City Council will discuss repealing a ban on roll carts for trash collection.

A citizen petition forced the city council to reconsider its ban.

Voters approved the ban in 2016 to stop the city from adopting trash bins for collection.

Residents say the current system of putting city-logo bags on the curb causes injuries for trash collectors and is more expensive.

If the council doesn't roll back the ban on Monday, voters will decide on the issue on August 2 during a special election.

This would not be the city's first discussion on roll carts, as the council voted not to hold a special election on the matter in November of 2020.
