Two more teens taken into custody for Sedalia homicide
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -
Police took two more teenagers into custody this week for their alleged roles in a deadly shooting in Sedalia.
The police department said on Wednesday that the two taken into custody join a third teenager suspected in a break-in that led to someone's death. Police said it took two of the three into custody over the weekend for the Dec. 10 shooting that killed Tylar Simon in the 1800 block of South Kentucky Ave.
The Wednesday update said the third juvenile was taken into custody in Kansas City. Police said it worked with law enforcement there to find the teen in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
Police said the department worked dozens of leads since the deadly shooting. A statement posted to its Facebook page said the three teens, ranging in age from 15 to 16, broke into the South Kentucky Ave. home to try and burglarize it. Police said the residents there "confronted" the trio, and Simon was shot in the fighting. Another resident, Nolan Simon, was hurt, according to police.
The statement said officers served search warrants in the 1900 block of South Missouri Ave., the 1800 block of South Harrison Ave. and the 500 block of South Kentucky Ave. Police said the first two teenaged suspects were found at this time, but did not say if they were found together or separately.
The department said some of the three are also suspects in three other burglaries around Sedalia. Those include Chrome Cutz and Sunkissed Tanning Salon on Nov. 18 and Kehde's BBQ on Nov. 20.
All three will go through the juvenile court system. They could face criminal charges in adult court following a certification hearing.
