The Randolph County prosecutor won't charge a county deputy that shot and killed a man in March.

Prosecutor Stephanie Luntsford told ABC 17 News that she decided not to file charges against the deputy that killed David Hill on March 23 in Jacksonville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control investigated the shooting. Investigators said the deputy went to a home in Jacksonville after getting calls about a man trying to break into homes. The patrol initially said Hill then approached the deputy with a knife "in a threatening manner," and the deputy shot him.

Luntsford said her review of the patrol's reports and videos she watched showed the deputy was justified in shooting. She said Hill posed a threat to the deputy, and that filing criminal charges were not appropriate.
