Randolph County deputy shoots, kills man during armed break-in call

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 44-year-old Randolph County man wielding a knife is dead after he was shot by a deputy Tuesday morning.

The deputy was sent to Jacksonville at about 4:35 a.m. on a call of a man with a knife trying to break into homes, the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop B said in a news release. The man approached the deputy with the knife "in a threatening manner" and the deputy shot him, the patrol said.

David Hill of Jacksonville was pronounced dead at the scene a little after 6 a.m., according to the patrol. Deputies gave him first aid at the scene, the patrol says.

The patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting. A Troop B spokesman said the patrol would release no other information beyond the news release, citing the ongoing investigation.
